AMINO ACIDS AND BCAA
Essential amino acids are those that cannot be produced by the body, but are required for maintenance of bodily functions and survival. Branch Chain Amino Acids combine the three essential amino acids which are most proven to assist in aiding with muscle repair and growth. The first being Leucine, which plays a critical role in muscle protein synthesis, therefore prompting increased muscle growth in the long term. The second amino acid refers to Isoleucine, which also assists in muscle protein synthesis, but it can also be broken down within the muscle tissue which allows for greater muscle strength and endurance. The final essential amino acid used is Valine, which acts to prevent muscle breakdown during a workout by increasing the rate at which glucose is transferred into muscle cells. Supplementing with BCAAs should therefore be considered by those who regularly engage in resistance training due to its muscle preservation and building characteristics.
